An electrical engineer by training, Mohamed Zaidi graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) from the Polytechnic University of New York in 1995.

His first job at Telekom Malaysia gave him an early exposure to international work when he coordinated and managed various business development projects in Asia and Africa.

Mohamed Zaidi joined the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC), the regulatory body for the communications and multimedia, postal and courier, and Public Key Infrastructure services in Malaysia, in 2000. Throughout the last 10 years, he has played an instrumental role in the development of the postal and public key infrastructure policy in Malaysia, in particular the gazette of the Postal Services Act 2012, the launching of the first National Postal Strategy (2010 – 2014), the implementation of Malaysian Courier Industry Development Plan, Universal Service Regulations and Licensing Regulations. Mohamed Zaidi’s noteworthy contribution to the postal sector in Malaysia was his championing the concept of “Regulate for Growth” which up to now, has been emulated and promoted by many other postal regulators and operators.

Mohamed Zaidi has also played an instrumental role in the development of PKI in Malaysia. He is responsible for the compliance and supervision of Certification Authority (CA) activities under the Digital Signature Act 1997 and Digital Signature Regulations 1998. He has also been influential in raising the Malaysian CA standards by introducing CA Webtrust Compliance Programme. Under his stewardship, trusted services provided by the CAs have become an important component of digital service eco-system for the Government, Banking and Financial Sectors and made Malaysia as one of the biggest users of PKI in the South East Asian Region.
